Life Under The Oaks Lavender Farm

All About Lavender

What is lavender?

Lavender (lav-en-der)
Scientific Name: Lavendula
A small aromatic evergreen shrub of the mint family, with narrow leaves and bluish-purple flowers
Lavandula is a genus of 47 known species of flowering plants in the mint family, Lamiaceae.
It is native to the Old World and is found in Cape Verde and the Canary Islands, and from Europe across to northern and eastern Africa, the Mediterranean, southwest Asia to India.
Lavender is very versatile often used as an ornamental plant in gardens, as a culinary herb, as well as many health and beauty products.
Life Under the Oaks Lavender

We grow three different varieties of lavender on our farm: Grosso, Provence, and Royal Velvet.

Grosso Lavender is a classic French hybrid Lavender, grown for its fragrant dark blue flower spikes and vigorous growth habit providing an ample harvest of flowers.  Grosso is a true lavender workhorse, and the most widely planted for oil production around the world, due to it's high oil content.

Provence Lavender is an intensely fragrant lavender and makes a wonderful cut flower with long stems and lavender-blue flower spikes. Provence culinary lavender has been the mainstay in Mediterranean and French cooking.

Royal Velvet Lavender is very showy in bloom with long stemmed, dark navy blue and lavender flower spikes and hold their dark color superbly as a dried flower. Royal Velvet is a delicious culinary variety that adds dimension to sweet and savory dishes.

Life Under the Oaks Lavender
Our lavender is grown within the Cherry Valley Wash and Five Sister Wash of Oracle, Arizona. The unique combination of high elevation, arid climate and sunshine provides the perfect environment for lavender to flourish and produce high quality oil.

You can purchase lavender products when you visit the farm's pop up shop or at our
Boutique at Sue & Jerry's Trading Post.

To purchase our products on line visit our Lavender Shop page.
